Spa and Massage in Bintan: Five Options from Resort Spas to Day Spas
Almost every spa on Bintan is in the Lagoi area, within twenty minutes of each other. There is only one thing to decide: a massage at the spa in the resort where you are staying, or a short trip out to a day spa with longer sessions at a much lighter price.
Two types of spa in Bintan, and how they differ
Spas on Bintan fall clearly into two groups. The first is the resort spas: Banyan Tree, Angsana, and Anindya at Nirwana Gardens — open pavilions facing the sea or the gardens, therapists with hundreds of hours of training, and rates quoted before tax and service charge. The second is the day spas outside the resort gates, such as D'Bintan in the Lagoi shophouse complex and Jepunsari at Simpang Lagoi, which sell two- to three-hour packages and pick you up from your hotel.
The difference is not just price, nor is it about which is better. A resort spa sells the setting: you are paying for a hillside pavilion overlooking the South China Sea, a hydrotherapy circuit and well-kept changing rooms. A day spa sells time — for the same budget, a family of four can each enjoy a two-hour massage, rather than one person getting a single hour. Groups and families almost always end up at a day spa; honeymooning couples almost always choose a resort spa.
Only one thing unites them: they are all in the Teluk Sebong area, where public transport is practically non-existent. The day spas do offer transfers, but these are usually tied to a minimum spend and set hours — and if you are staying outside Lagoi or want to stop by on your way back from Trikora, the schedule rarely fits. That, rather than a fully booked spa, is what most often derails an afternoon massage.
Locations, distances and session lengths
The figures that apply to all five spas below: how long the journey takes, which area they are all in, how long a session lasts, and the treatment terms you will be asked about at the front desk.
Drive time
5–20 minutes from Lagoi Bay
60 minutes from Tanjung Pinang
Area
All five are in Teluk Sebong, the resort area in northern Bintan — three inside resorts, two in the shophouses and at the junction outside them. The exact location is on each card below.
Open in Google MapsSession length
60–150 minutes
Sixty minutes is the shortest session commonly offered; signature packages at resort spas can run to two and a half hours.
Commonly offered
- Balinese massage and traditional Javanese urut
- Aromatherapy with gentler pressure
- Foot reflexology, 60–90 minutes
- Lulur, body scrubs and facials
The best time to book
Treatment rooms are indoors, so the season makes no difference on this page — unlike fishing or snorkelling trips. What is scarce here is not good weather, but one particular hour that every resort guest wants at the same time.
Quietest
09.00 – 12.00
The easiest slot to get, and the only time you can usually still book on the same day, even at resort spas. If you are after a particular therapist who has been recommended — and at resort spas, a therapist recommendation genuinely matters — the morning is when they are most likely to be free.
Peak rush
16.00 – 19.00
Resort guests have just come off the beach or out of the pool, and everyone books a massage for the same time. This is the slot that sells out fastest, especially on Saturdays and Singapore public holidays. If you want this time, book the day before — and at this hour a day spa is actually more likely to fit you in than a resort spa.
After dinner
19.00 – 22.00
Practically only the day spas still take guests into the evening; resort spas generally stop taking bookings earlier. This is the most sensible time for groups: the day is done and there is nothing to rush off to afterwards. Just make sure your ride home is arranged — after nine at night there are no passing vehicles to flag down in the area.
Five spas and massage places in Bintan
Not ranked from best to worst. The order follows the type of venue: the three resort spas first, then the two day spas. That is the real decision you are making — not which is best, but whether you pay for the setting or for the time.
Banyan Tree Spa Bintan
Hillside pavilions overlooking the South China Sea
Type: Resort spa
- Location: Banyan Tree Bintan, Tanjung Sari
- Drive from Lagoi Bay: 10–15 minutes from Lagoi Bay
- How to book: Reservation required
The best-known spa on Bintan, and the most expensive. Fifteen treatment rooms are spread across the hillside within the Banyan Tree grounds, some with a private plunge pool, a bathtub and a day bed facing the open sea — and that view is what you are really paying for. The menu is long, but what draws people from afar is the 150-minute Royal Banyan with warm herbal compresses, and the Rainforest hydrotherapy circuit: a sequence of sauna, steam room, themed showers and jacuzzi taken in turn before the massage begins. Reservations are essential, and afternoon slots are usually gone several days in advance.
Signature treatments
- Royal Banyan, 150 minutes with warm herbal compresses
- Rainforest hydrotherapy circuit
- Nusantara Massage, with techniques from across Indonesia
Angsana Spa Bintan
Open-air pavilions on the second floor, overlooking the garden and beach
Type: Resort spa
- Location: Angsana Bintan, Tanjung Said
- Drive from Lagoi Bay: 10–15 minutes from Lagoi Bay
- How to book: Reservation required
Part of the same group as Banyan Tree and just a few minutes away from it, but more relaxed in atmosphere and lighter on price. Fifteen rooms, ten of them open-roofed pavilions on the second floor overlooking the garden, pool and beach — the sea breeze flows straight into the treatment room, which is why some guests actually prefer it to its parent spa. The techniques blend Asian massage with European touches, using local ingredients such as palm sugar lulur and bengkoang coffee. The signature is the 120-minute Angsana Massage, while couples' packages and Javanese lulur are among the most requested. Therapists complete at least 350 hours of training before treating guests.
Signature treatments
- 120-minute Angsana Massage
- Javanese lulur and palm sugar body polish
- Couples' packages in an open pavilion
Anindya Spa
Nirwana Gardens' spa, on the beach or in your room
Type: Resort spa
- Location: Nirwana Gardens, Jl. Panglima Pantar
- Drive from Lagoi Bay: 15–20 minutes from Lagoi Bay
- How to book: Reservation required
The spa of the Nirwana Gardens estate, and the most sensible choice if you are staying on that side — about twenty minutes from Lagoi Bay, so less practical if you are staying at the other end. Its concept is Indonesian spa heritage: spices and oils from across the archipelago, with Balinese and Javanese massage at its core. What sets it apart from the previous two spas is not the menu but the fact that the venue can move — besides its spa rooms, Anindya offers massages in a beachside pavilion and in your room. The latter is the answer for guests with small children who are already asleep and cannot be left alone.
Signature treatments
- Balinese massage and traditional Javanese urut
- Massage in a beachside pavilion
- In-room massage
D'Bintan Salon Day Spa
Day spa in the Lagoi shophouses, open until ten at night
Type: Day spa
- Location: Komplek Ruko Pujasera, Kawasan Bintan Resort
- Drive from Lagoi Bay: 5–10 minutes from Lagoi Bay
- How to book: Walk-ins welcome
- Transfers: Own transfer service available
The day spa most often recommended by guests in the Lagoi area, for a simple reason: two- to three-hour packages for the price that buys just one hour at a resort spa. It is in the Pujasera shophouse complex within the Bintan Resort area, open from nine in the morning to ten at night, and accepts walk-ins — though for afternoon slots it is still best to call ahead. Its services are comprehensive for a day spa: body massage, reflexology, facials, and even haircuts and hair washing. They offer return transfers from the resorts or the ferry terminal with a minimum spend, so ask about the amount when booking.
Signature treatments
- 2–3 hour body packages
- Foot reflexology
- Facial and hair treatments
Jepunsari Spa Bintan
At Simpang Lagoi, about fifteen minutes from the resorts
Type: Day spa
- Location: Simpang Lagoi
- Drive from Lagoi Bay: 15 minutes from Lagoi Bay
- How to book: Walk-ins welcome
- Transfers: Own transfer service available
A day spa at Simpang Lagoi, right on the route you take into or out of the resort area — a location that makes it a convenient stop before heading back to your hotel or on the way to the ferry, rather than a destination in itself. It offers body massage, reflexology and couples' packages, at day spa prices and with longer sessions than resort spas. They also provide return pickups from hotels in the resort area. It is smaller than D'Bintan, so for large groups it is best to check first how many people they can treat at the same time.
Signature treatments
- Couples' massage packages
- Foot reflexology
- Long-duration body massage
Locations, drive times, booking methods and treatment lists were compiled in September 2026 from each spa's website and menu — the Banyan Tree and Angsana spa pages, Nirwana Gardens' Anindya wellness page, and the pages of both day spas — plus Google Maps and TripAdvisor entries for addresses and transfer terms. Travel times are estimates and may change. This page does not list prices: spa rates vary with packages and seasons, and resort spas quote prices before tax and service charge while day spas quote net prices, so any figure printed here would be out of date before it was read. The order above is not a ranking, and this page does not claim that any one spa is better than another.
What to know before you book
Book the day before for a late-afternoon slot
Four to seven in the afternoon is the slot that fills fastest across the whole Lagoi area, and on Saturdays and Singapore long weekends it can be fully booked two days in advance. If your group has more than four people, mention the number when booking — rooms that can take four people at once are limited at every venue on this page.
Discuss massage pressure from the start
Balinese massage and traditional urut use firm pressure; aromatherapy is much gentler. The difference is significant and not always explained on the menu. Say when booking whether you want light or firmer pressure, then repeat it to your therapist in the first few minutes — changing it mid-session is almost always too late.
Check the transfer terms, not just whether there is one
Day spas that offer pickups usually tie them to a minimum spend and set hours, and they only cover the area around the resorts. If you are staying outside Lagoi, travelling as a group in one car, or want to stop by on the way back from Trikora, it is safer to arrange your own transport than to fit your plans around their pickup schedule.
Not straight after a big meal — and bring cash
Allow at least an hour after a heavy meal — abdominal massage and lying face down are uncomfortable afterwards. Bring enough cash too: some day spas accept cash only, the signal for QRIS payments in the shophouse area often drops out, and therapists' tips are usually given in cash even when the bill is paid by card.
We drive you there and wait until you finish, even late at night
Tell us the date, your massage time, the number of people and the spa you have chosen. We will prepare the car along with a driver who knows the Lagoi area well — including waiting during your session and driving you back after nine at night, when there are no other vehicles to flag down there.
